Notes to Applicants for “Life Mentor” Program Volunteer
Objectives
- To Recruit everyone in the community to be a voluntary “life mentor” for offering emotional supports and life guidance.
- To promoting the community's attention to residential care services for children and adolescents, and to develop more community resources for our residents. By promoting community members to participate in volunteer services, this project can not only provide better quality and diversified services for our residents, but also provide better follow-up services for discharged residents.
Target Service User
Residents in Jockey Club Mark Memorial Home who are aged between 13 to 21
Role and Responsibilities
- As a Life Guide, a mentor is expected to widen the residents' horizons, offer career inspirations, and assist in building up self-esteem and resilience, providing guidance and companionship as part of the personal development experience.
- Keep in contact with mentee at least once two months, sharing life experiences, providing guidance, support, attention and caring;
- Help mentee to locate and receive relevant community services, including housing, community resources, etc
- Attend training sessions and sharing sessions provided
- Report progress and provide feedback to regularly.
- At least one co-create community engagement or volunteering projects with their mentee to rebuild social identity including carnival activity, street counters or any other voluntary service organized by service operators.
Be a Mentor
- Aged 18 or above
- Positive and non-judgmental in attitude
- Willing to devote time and to attend trainings for at least 12 months
- Willing to patiently and wholeheartedly listen to the residents
- We will invite the eligible applicants to an interview and briefing session. Applicants shall understand and agree program’s vision and mission before meeting the residents.
Implementation Period
1st phrase: from Jan 2023 to May 2024
