Now and Then
Relocation of Mark Memorial Home to King Lam Estate in 1993. The Home had kept its originality for more than 20 years until the major renovation funded by Lotteries Fund in 2018. Two years later, a 3-year "RESTORE" Youth Empowerment Project and a fitting-out works was started funded by Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust to refurbish the Home.
Before
We redesigned and reconstructed every corner to provide a more home-like environment to our children. Tranquilness and warmness are expressed by the light-colour wall and wood flooring. Three Houses are defined by its representing colours, namely purple, green and blue, to build uniqueness and sense of belonging of its residents. We respect privacy, therefore, each child has their own bedding set, wardrobe, work desk and ergonomic chair in a bedroom to build their secret corner.
After
The redesigned Home has an ambience of healing energy.
Our children can leave us a message on the whiteboards and interactive display monitors. Anytime, anywhere!
Built-in sensory integration facilities and equipment improve children’s ability of emotional management.
Residents are always encouraged to use all functional rooms. Especially, fitness equipment in gym room was added to comply with implementation of Healthy Lifestyle program suggested by Chinese University of Hong Kong.
Our children learn what is “life’ through a demonstration of cycle of life within the aquaponics system. Sense of empathy and responsibility are the cores to our life education, as always.
Creative Studio filled with various audio and visual equipment such as projector, tripod, soft box, flash light, background holder and many more.
Multifunctional hall supplies electronic band set, music instruments, soundproof wall panels to our children and staff. It caters for events and activities from drama lesson to opening ceremony.
Fledging should learn to fly. Independent Living Room includes tailor-made designed bed, essential furniture and kitchen utensils, etc.
